NASTAWGAN
The Nastawgan is a quarterly journal published by the Wilderness Canoe Association, originally called The Beaver Damn which started in 1974. By 1975 the name was changed to The Wilderness Canoist and in 1982 it became Nastawgan. In 2021 the e-version (e-Nastawgan) was started. It showcases incredible wilderness expeditions, inspiring conservation work, camping stories, paddling advice and more. All paper versions have been pdf’d and stored on the WCA website at https://wildernesscanoe.ca/journal_archive_list
FALL GATHERING AND WINE & CHEESE SOCIAL
The Fall Gathering is held each September and is an opportunity to connect with other WCA members and look back on the season’s paddling trips. The Wine & Cheese Social is hosted in November and features a prominent speaker in the outdoor industry.
CLUB OUTINGS
WCA members have access to the Club Outings Forum, where they can post trips or join trips other members are running. In 2019, club members launched more than 50 trips across Canada – including in Ontario, Labrador, Nunavut and the Yukon!
WILDERNESS CANOE SYMPOSIUM
Each February, members gather in Toronto (or, as in the past couple of years on Zoom) for a weekend of wilderness story telling and community building. The symposium attracts top presenters from across the outdoor industry and features WCA members doing exceptional trips with the club.
